Uva Province

Uva Province

Uva Province is located in the southeastern hill region of Sri Lanka and includes Badulla and Monaragala districts. It is known for its mountainous terrain, waterfalls, and agricultural economy. Badulla serves as the provincial capital and a key administrative center.

Tea cultivation dominates the highland areas, while paddy, sugarcane, and vegetable farming are common in lower regions. The province also contributes to hydropower generation due to its rivers and elevation.

Uva has growing eco-tourism potential, with attractions such as Ella, waterfalls, hiking trails, and scenic viewpoints. Despite its natural wealth, the province faces development challenges, including lower income levels and limited industrialization.

Culturally, Uva preserves many rural traditions and folklore. The people rely heavily on agriculture and community-based living. With improved infrastructure and tourism investment, Uva Province has strong potential for sustainable regional development.
